Description

watercolour from Sicily

I have never been a Baroque fan. Because of kitsch, because of too many sweet fatty angels with naked asses, because it used to be too religious-propagandist, because people responsible for the baroquiization of Gothic churches should be fried in hell ... such "becauses" I could still find more and more.

However, Noto cures of Baroquephobia. As a result of the earthquake, Noto was created from scratch. That’s why it became coherent, harmonious and simply ... beautiful. It is rich in detail, but it is not overloaded. It is not big, but it is spatial. It is monumental but not overwhelming. Aurea mediocritas is able to help even Baroque art.

I feel heard and illumined both by your comments baroque architecture, the witticisms and the cynicism, and the humility with which that self-contained story-of-thoughts end - I am so glad to be able to stop, and read, and stumble across so very well-expressed foreign viewpoints. I feel enriched by it, if you'd pardon the santimentalism.

I really get the feeling of the bright open space, the airiness and balance.

Also, the balloons are such a great repeating motive - the whimsy and the nostalgia of them, the way they can suffuse an image with both fantasy and mundanity. People who are better at analysis could probably say more and say it better, but I can just say:
